UPDATE 11/13/12 @ 5:25 p.m.
DUNBAR, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man paralyzed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair was robbed at knifepoint and beaten. Now the suspect, Cody Taylor, is behind bars.

The victim, Ralph Gillewater, says he was at the Go-Mart in Dunbar when his motorized wheelchair stopped working. He said Taylor offered to push him home, but that’s when things took a very different turn -- putting Gillenwater in the hospital and Taylor behind bars.

"I didn't know he was a 'woosy' idiot, which is who picks on people like me," Gillenwater said.

Gillenwater is recovering at his home from a broken jaw, bruises and a black eye. On Wednesday, his motorized wheelchair broke down just blocks away from his home. He said Taylor offered to push him to his home along 18th Street, but that’s when things took a different turn.

"Cody ran me up that steep place on 17th Street here and rolled me on his grandmother's yard, and I said, ‘What are you doing? What's going on?’ He grabbed my seat belt and said, ‘Don't you worry about what's going on,’ and then unhooked it and threw me over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes or a dead deer or something," Gillenwater said.

Gillenwater said Taylor took him inside, robbed him and beat him. He then took him home and threatened him.

“He said if I told any law enforcement that he'd personally come up here and kick in my door, kill my children, my wife and me," he said.

"Everything in this report is just false," Taylor said.

Taylor told WSAZ.com exclusively from jail that he never laid his hands on Gillenwater and never threatened him. He claims Gillenwater hit him.

"I did push him home,” he said. “I mean there was no foul intentions before that happened. And then he said he had Xanax that he wanted to sell and I didn't have the money so I took the Xanex's. I never touched the man I don't even know where a knife came into play."

"He's just a lowlife wimp, a coward,” Gillenwater said. “That's what he is. A yellow-bellied coward."

It's a crime that has cost Gillenwater his sense of security and Taylor his freedom.

"If I could tell the man I'm sorry for I guess intimidating him, if that's what I did. If I took his medication then I would apologize for that and I would try to make that right somehow," Taylor said.

Because of Taylor’s threats, Gillenwater says he’s afraid to let his kids play outside. He said his motorized wheelchair is still broken. He won’t be able to get another one for another couple of years.

Taylor’s charged with armed robbery, kidnapping and assault.
