ASHLAND, Ky (WSAZ) -- Cancer can affect the lives of people everywhere, but for one boy in Ashland, overcoming the odds has made one of his wishes come true.
Nine-year-old Chris Adams is a cancer survivor. While he is now cancer free, Chris still suffers from an eye disease that affects his retinas, making it hard for him to see. On Saturday, Chris was given a shopping spree at the Wal-Mart in Ashland, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Ramona Burchett, Make-A-Wish Foundation volunteer, giving Chris a shopping spree warms her heart.
"When you see a sick child that doesn't have too many wonderful days and see the smile on his face and the smile in his eyes, you just can't beat it," Burchett said. "It's wonderful."
After years of hospital visits and cancer treatments, Chris is still on a tough road to recovery. Sandy Adams, Chris' mother, says the shopping spree has helped their family forget about the struggles.
"Knowing what he's went through and to know I've got him alive today, is fantastic," Adams said.
While fighting his disease, Chris missed nearly a year of school. His parents say he's doing better, his vision is improving, and he is back in school.
