OAK HILL, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Less than five minutes after John Love and his fiancé Angie got home Thursday night, Angie spotted a man prowling around outside their neighbor's home.

“Where the grocery cart is, down the little embankment... He was along the grass there,” Love said. “That's where she first spotted him. Then he started walking up towards that house.”

Angie ran inside and John went on the front porch to watch, and call police.

“By the time I'd gotten out here and called 911 he was already through the window,” Love said. “He was inside. So it was that quick.”

At that point, John and Angie didn't realize that 60-year-old Judith Jones was asleep inside.

“What would he have done if the lady of the house had awakened and startled him in his frame of mind,” Love said. “In that instant he could've done something really bad to her.”

The police chief says the suspect, Brandon Hale, was looking for drugs. I spoke with Hale's brother today-- who told me, he's been in and out of jail for years.

“Each community has it, it's just whether you want to admit it or not,” Police Chief Chris Gruber said. “A lot of communities are in denial that they don't have a drug problem, but that's a big part of it... just recognizing that you do and trying to deal with it.”

In this case: Police were quick to arrive. An officer was on the scene within a minute of John's 911 call. Hale was arrested inside-- before Judith ever woke up.

“Now it's in the courts hands. If they do their job, the neighborhood did theirs,” Love said.
