WORTHINGTON, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A police standoff in Worthington, Ky. has ended peacefully with a man taken into custody.

The incident began about 5:30 Monday morning with police responding to a domestic violence call in the 200-block of Culver Street.

Worthington Police Chief Mike Hartman says the wife of the man arrested had fled to her sister’s house when they arrived on the scene. She told officers that her husband was threatening to kill anyone who came near their house.

Chief Hartman says she also told officers that her husband had taken nearly two dozen pills about the time the incident began. Police then called a local pharmacy and learned those pills would put the man to sleep.

About 9:15 a.m., officers from Worthington, Russell and Raceland fired two flash grenades into the house. The SWAT members then entered the house and found the man unconscious with a gun beside him, according to Hartman

The man was taken to a local hospital where Monday afternoon he was in very serious condition.

Police say he faces numerous charges. His name has not been released at this time.
