MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man is in jail following a two-state police chase early Saturday morning.

According to the police report, the incident began about 1:50 a.m. as a Gallipolis Police Officer was patrolling on First Avenue around the city park when he drove by a car and heard a woman scream, "He is hurting me." The officer said a man was choking the woman by placing her hair around her neck.

The officer got both people out of the car. The woman told the officer that her boyfriend had been hitting, choking and punching her.

That's when Jason Ancell, 33, of Clarksburg, W.Va., got back into his car and drove straight toward the officer. The officer had to jump out of the way to not get hit.

Another officer, along with two Gallia County Sheriff's Deputies, chased Ancell until he crossed the bridge into Point Pleasant, W.Va.

At that time, Point Pleasant Police and the Mason County Sheriff's Office picked up the chase.

According to the criminal complaint from the Mason County Magistrate Court, Ancell took the Route 2 bypass at 3rd Street, then took Highland Avenue behind an old Mexican restaurant.

Point Pleasant Police Chief Ernie Waterson said Ancell ran into one of his officer's cruisers and pushed it out of the way.

According to the criminal complaint, Ancell hit a Mason County Sheriff's Deputy in the leg, knocking him to the ground, and took off.

Deputies were able to catch Ancell on Route 2 North, where he finally stopped just before the Jackson County line.

Deputies say there were beer bottles and an empty liquor bottle in Ancell's vehicle.

Ancell is charged with a felony fleeing while DUI and fleeing in a vehicle with bodily injury.

Ancell was arraigned over the weekend and is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
