FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. (AP) - A Fayette County man faces up to 15 years in prison after pleading guilty to throwing several cats into a fire.
The Fayette County Prosecutor's Office says Michael W. Ford pleaded guilty Tuesday in Fayette County Circuit Court to three counts of cruelty to animals. He's scheduled to be sentenced April 10.
Ford admitted to putting at least three cats inside a wooden box and throwing them into a fire on Oct. 21, 2013.
Police say the remains of seven cats were recovered.
56-year-old Michael Wayne Ford, of Victor, was charged this week with seven counts of cruelty to animals.
State Police records show the four cats and eight kittens were in a box that had been placed in a fire pit Monday.
Ford's wife Robin told a trooper her husband had complained about the cats earlier that day.
She said she saw Michael Ford start the fire but didn't know what was burning until it was too late to get the box out.
The remains of seven animals were recovered.
Michael Ford remained held in the Southern Regional Jail on $35,000 bond Friday.
Jail records didn't indicate whether he has an attorney.
