Man Drowns after Running from Police in Meigs County

MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A man drowned after he ran from police and jumped in a creek.

Meigs County Sheriff Keith Wood tells WSAZ.com that Middleport Police were investigating a tip about drug activity in the Leading Creek area.

When they got on scene around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, they found a truck with a meth lab inside.

John Ward, 48, and a woman, who was in the truck, were taken into custody.

Sheriff Wood tells WSAZ.com that Ward took off and jumped into Leading Creek.

His body was found about three hours later.

Ward's body has been sent to the Montgomery County Coroner's Office for an autopsy.

Ohio BCI has been called in to investigate the case.

No other information is being released about the woman in the truck.
