POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man was woken up by fierce flames Saturday morning in Point Pleasant.

It happened early Saturday morning along Sandhill Road.

Fire crews say the homeowner, James Bartles, had only been asleep for an hour when a noise woke him, and he was surrounded by flames.

They say Bartles was unable to open his bedroom door, but he did manage to escape.

The house was destroyed. There's no word on what started the fire.
