ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man is dead after getting struck by a train in St. Albans.

Police say Kevin Moles, 48, died after getting hit by a train and falling off a bridge that crosses the Coal River.

Dispatchers tell WSAZ.com it happened in the 300 block of B Street about 6 p.m. Saturday.

Firefighters say Moles was walking with two kids. Both of the kids saw the train coming and stopped before going across the bridge. However, Moles kept walking even after the engineer laid on the horn and hit the brakes, according to emergency responders.

Emergency workers say Moles was dead when they arrived and suffered massive head trauma and several broken bones.

Officers are investigating but say they may never know the entire reason why the incident happened.
