FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The Fayette County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting at a bar early Saturday morning.
It happened about 3:20 a.m. inside Drifter's Bar in the Glen Jean area.
Sheriff Steve Kessler says two men got into a fight. When a bouncer tried to separate them, one of the men pulled out a handgun and shot the other in the left leg, above his knee.
Kessler says the bullet went through his leg and hit the floor of the bar. The suspect then fled the scene.
Deputies spoke with the victim, Emanuel Stoumile, 28, at the hospital, but say he wouldn't cooperate. Stoumile denied being in a fight and said he didn't know who shot him.
About the same time, Beckley Police officers pulled over Kevin Dumas, 20, from Columbus, Ohio.
Police say Dumas matched the description of the shooting suspect and they found a stolen handgun in his vehicle. That gun was the same model as the one used in the shooting.
Dumas was wanted out of Columbus for charges of felonious assault. He was arrested for that case, but denied any knowledge of the bar shooting.
"If the 'victim' of this shooting doesn't want to cooperate with our investigation, that's completely up to him," Sheriff Kessler said. "however, when this individual discharged a handgun in a crowded bar, striking another individual who was wrestling with on of the bouncers, that puts innocent victims in danger. We will be proceeding with this investigation with the intention of filing charges against Mr. Dumas in the very near future."
