HUNTINGTON, W.Va., (WSAZ) – The girlfriend of a man charged with a recent murder in Huntington has been arrested and charged with aiding abetting in that murder.

Retina Morgan, 21, of Huntington was arrested following the preliminary hearing for Spanish Smith in Cabell County Magistrate Court Thursday morning.

Smith,23, of Detroit is charged with murder in the shooting death of Eugene Scott Walmsley, 33, of Inkster, Michigan.

The shooting happened June 23 outside a home in the 1300-block of 8th Avenue.

Smith was arrested on July 3 at an apartment on Nash Street in Barboursville.

According to the criminal complaint against Morgan, she “secured approximately $20,000 for Spanish Smith from a drug house after he murdered Walmsley. Morgan assisted Smith with fleeing Huntington. Morgan also secured an apartment for Smith to hide.”

Morgan was also charged with a conspiracy drug charge. She is being held in the Western Reginal jail.

Smith’s murder case was sent to a grand jury following Thursday’s preliminary hearing.

A Huntington Police Detective, Paul Hunter testified there were words back and forth between Walmsley and Smtih that led to an altercation. That altercation then led to Smith pulling out a gun and shooting Walmsley in the face.

The detective also testified that Smith admitted to using .22 revolver.

Another man, Timothy Anderson, has also been was arrested in connection with the shooting.

Police say Anderson is charged with accessory to murder.

BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A murder suspect is behind bars after an intense sting operation Thursday night.

Police arrested Spanish Smith, who they said is connected to a murder on 8th Avenue in Huntington in late June.

Neighbors said there were more people and cars on their street than they've ever seen.

Police found four people, drugs, guns and cash inside the home.

One of the people, Spanish Smith, 23, is a man police said is connected to the murder of Eugene Walmsley.

"Yesterday was an eyeopener," said Tori Vickers.

Vickers is one of many neighbors shocked a murder suspect was living just a few doors down.

Police swarmed Nash Street in Barboursville, an area she said is generally calm.

"I was in the kitchen, and a guy with a semi-automatic came to the window and told me to get my family in the back of the house, and that's when SWAT and a bunch of personnel flooded the street," Vickers said.

She estimated 30 police officers were staged around her street before they went in the home.

"There were two cars parked here, and there were two SWAT guys aiming over here," Vickers said.

They were searching for Smith.

They said Smith and Walmsley are both from Michigan.

"They just started coming out of the woodwork," Vickers said, referring to the officers.

During the sting, police found a loaded rifle, hundreds of dollars in cash, and heroin.

They arrested Retina Morgan, 21, and Chaymeasha Bailey, 20, both of Huntington and Shawnell Wilson, 20, of Detroit on drug charges.

"I'm always surprised at what's going on in this day and time; it's just different," said neighbor Kay Adkins.

Neighbors said this is the first time they've ever seen anything like this, and they hope it's the last.

"I'm just glad it's over, really glad it's over," Vickers said.

Barboursville Police and State Police arrested another man, Joseph Cook, shortly afterward.

They said he left the home in a taxi moments before the sting.

When police caught up with Cook, they found 15 grams of heroin on him.

They also said he's wanted out of Michigan on violent crime charges.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two arrests have been made in a murder case out of Huntington.

Huntington Police tell WSAZ.com Spanish Smith, of Detroit, was arrested Thursday afternoon at an apartment on Nash Street in Barboursville.

Smith was wanted for murder in the shooting death of Eugene Scott Walmsley, 33, of Inkster, Michigan.

The shooting happened June 23 outside a home in the 1300-block of 8th Avenue.

Another man, Timothy Anderson, was arrested Monday in connection with the shooting.

Police say Anderson is charged with accessory to murder.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Huntington Police have released the name of the man found shot to death outside a home at 1305 8th Ave. in Huntington.

Police say the victim is Eugene Scott Walmsley, 33, of Inkster, Michigan.

Walmsley was found dead in a grassy area in front of the house.

The shooting happened about 10 p.m. Monday.

About an hour after Walmsley was shot, police say a 19-year-old was shot to death outside his home in the 1005 Jackson Avenue.

Garrett Ray Hatten, 19, was killed in this unrelated shooting.

The shooting was reported just after 11 p.m.

Police say it appears several people went to the home, where an altercation took place. One of the people then shot Hatten during some type of fight.

The people then fled the scene in two different vehicles.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Huntington Police have not released the name of the man found shot to death outside a house at 1305 8th Avenue in Huntington.

Police say the man was found dead in a grassy area in front of the house.

The shooting happened about 10 p.m. Monday.

According to a news release, a suspect has been identified, but no arrests have been made.

Police at the scene said that following the shooting, a man and woman A man and woman were stopped by the Ohio Highway Patrol at a gas station in South Point. The officer said they were reportedly driving suspiciously.

The vehicle, a white Cadillac, is similar to the description of a vehicle that might be connected to the murder.

Both people were being questioned late Monday night..

About an hour later, police say a 19-year-old was shot to death outside his home in the 1005 Jackson Avenue.

The shooting was reported just after 11 p.m.

The shooting was reported just before 10 p.m. Monday.
