PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A man and a woman recently were arrested on drug charges in Portsmouth after police say both were passed out in a car with their infant inside.

Justin Varney, 27, and Megan Evans, 18, both were charged with possession of heroin, possession of drugs, possession of drug abuse instruments and endangering a child.

Portsmouth Police said they received a call about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday that a man and woman were passed out in a car in the parking lot of a business.

Officers attempted to wake up the man and woman and heard a baby crying in the back seat.

Police said Varney had a needle in his arm at the time.

The 8-month-old boy, the child of Varney and Evans, was wearing a diaper only. He was determined to be OK and placed into the custody of Children's Services.

Varney and Evans were taken to the Scioto County Jail.
