UPDATE: Man Accused of Jumping in River to Avoid Police Not Being Charged

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man accused of running from police and jumping into the Kanawha River is not being charged.

It happened Saturday afternoon in the East Bank area of Kanawha County.

Sheriff's deputies say the man was reported as behaving suspiciously, walking along the railroad tracks with a large knife in hand.

When deputies approached him, they say the man fled and jumped into the river.

The man was taken to the hospital, but law enforcement is not taking any action.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man is in custody after running from police and jumping into the river.

Kanawha County sheriff's deputies were trying to arrest the man when they say he took off into the Kanawha River, Saturday afternoon.

It happened in the East Bank area. The suspect was able to crawl out of the river near a house.

Neighbors tell WSAZcom that the man received a cut to his arm and said he was running from police because he "didn't want to go back to jail."

The suspect's name and reason for his arrest have not yet been released.
