CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A shake and bake-style meth lab abandoned in the parking lot of an apartment building has shaken up the community.

Police say someone left the meth lab inside a suitcase outside Terrace Park East off of Kanawha Blvd.

They say a man walking in the parking lot spotted the abandoned suitcase about 1:30 p.m. and called 911. When officers arrived, they found 13 bottles inside filled with drug-making materials.

"I was shocked, just like everybody else was around this whole complex," neighbor William Albright said.

Albright says the discovery is troubling in a community filled with children and seniors.

"It makes me nervous because I thought the East End was cleaned up pretty good," he said. "That's pretty scrappy, and it's right in my backdoor."

As police cleaned up the chemical hazard, other neighbors say it made their Memorial Day weekend picnic plans harder to stomach.

"A kid could have gotten into that," Tim Petry said. "It was just left right on the side of the road, right in front of a nice apartment complex."

Police are still trying to figure out who is responsible for leaving the meth lab.
