UPDATE: Teacher To Serve 3 Years of Supervised Probation

UPDATE 2/12/13 @ 10:50 a.m.
PRESTONSBURG, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A Floyd County teacher, who pleaded guilty to drug charges, will serve three years of supervised probation.

Michelle Hall was arrested in June 2012 when police say she appeared to be under the influence of drugs at a pizza restaurant in Prestonsburg, Ky.

Hall allegedly failed field sobriety tests. Jail officials say they also found pills and drug paraphernalia in her clothes.

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) – When Prestonsburg Police Chief Mike Ormerod went to Pizza Hut on a lunch break Friday, he says he noticed a woman at the counter acting unusual, swaying back and forth, appearing to be under the influence.

That woman was South Floyd Middle School special education teacher Michelle Hall, police say.

After getting the attention of customers in the Prestonsburg Pizza Hut with her unusual behavior about noon Friday, 37-year-old Hall failed a field sobriety test. She was arrested and charged with public intoxication.

Police say after Hall was hauled off to the Floyd County Detention Center, she was searched, and more pills were found hidden in her clothing.

Ormerod says they found a prescription bottle hidden in her bra that contained oxycodone, and they also found oxycontin pills and drug paraphernalia.

Parents say it's discouraging to think someone who's supposed to be a positive influence on kids could possibly be in such a negative spiral.

"It's very upsetting that something like that would take place with someone who we trust our children with every day," parent Laura Ousley said.

Hall is charged with two counts of first degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and first degree promoting contraband.

Chief Ormerod says this is another example that the drug problem touches everyone in all walks of life.

Hall is now out of jail on bond.

No one with the Floyd County School System could be reached for comment Monday afternoon.
