IRONTON, Ohio -- (WSAZ) Recent vandalism of more than a dozen cars in Ironton, Ohio Monday morning, has become an unofficial call to action.

Ironton Citizens Watch hopes it's standing room only at a neighborhood watch meeting on Wednesday night.

"When we first started our site, we had a lot of naysayers," says Ironton Police Officer Chad Gue. "The believed criminals would be involved, reading everything that was posted. My answer to that was 'I hope so.' I want them to know we're watching."

Ironton Citizens Watch is holding a meeting at 6:00, Wednesday night, at 2707 South 9th Street in Ironton.

"Now in Ironton, you just don't have to deal with the police, you're going to have to deal with the United Community," says Chad Gue. "Getting involved can only make a difference in our community."

IRONTON, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Run flat tires, no match for a vandal randomly tagging cars in Ironton on Monday morning.

"I guess 26 other cars in the neighborhood have been slashed for no reason," Ironton resident Matt Spears said. "I just hope they find the person who did it.

Much of the damage to cars happened in the 2700 blocks of South 10th and South 11th streets, and Latonia Street.

"People need to stay vigilant and realize we're working a few leads," Ironton Police Chief Dan Johnson said. "If you have any surveillance video, contact us and let us know."

The rash of vandalism was the talk on Facebook by Monday morning. Ironton Citizens Watch is a neighborhood watch program that's gaining steam.

A new meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 2709 South 9th St.

Rachel Miller, a mom with two children, plans to be a little more involved with the neighborhood watch program.

"I don't know a lot of the other neighbors because of life being crazy and busy," Miller said. "It doesn't help to feel sorry. You just got to get out and do what you can to make it better."
