NGK Sparkplugs Expanding Plant; Creating Dozens of New Jobs

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- NGK Sparkplugs has announced an expansion that will create 34 new jobs over the next couple of years.

The announcement of a new plant at the Sissonville site was made at a Charleston Area Alliance meeting Tuesday afternoon.

The new facility will be used to create a new type of sparkplug that will essentially help vehicles run better and have better fuel efficiency.

"NGK Sparkplugs is creating the kind of advanced manufacturing jobs we need in West Virginia, but we have to do more all across the state," Senator Jay Rockefeller said. "That's why I strongly support innovation, research and development and training West Virginia's workforce for the skills our advanced manufacturing sector needs. Those are the keys to our future."

NGK officials say there are a variety of jobs and salaries that will be available. They say the search for new employees will begin in the near future.

Construction of the new plant is expected to begin in February and be complete by September. The assembly line should be up and running by the end of 2013.
