PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Nearly $1 million in state funding soon will pave the way for safer roads in part of Pike County.
Officials say two high traveled routes near Phelps -- Ky. 194 and Ky. 632 -- are narrow, curvy and all too often deadly.
The money originally was set aside for an interstate project, but officials say it would be better spent widening those rural roads and potentially save lives.
The money isn't enough for the entire project, but officials say it's enough to get started.
A meeting is set for later this week to decide when work can begin.
