HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A big move for a company with a rich history in our region could mean new jobs.

Magnetech has been in Huntington for more than 100 years, under several different names.

Now, a new building could help put more people to work in the Tri-State.

A lot has changed since Earl Koster began working for the company that is now Magnetech. It's been 26 years.

“It's been good ... It's been bad ... We all look for history to get better as we go,” Koster said.

And things are getting better -- thanks to one big change on display Friday in Huntington.

“More people,” Koster said. “More production. Keep this community running fine.”

The company moved from its building along 10th Street and 7th Avenue to a new facility along West 8th Avenue. It's leasing the space from the Huntington Area Development Council. And everyone is hoping the move will mean more jobs.

“Right now, yeah, we hire one or two here and there,” Koster said. “But I hope, hopefully, we get work flowing through this shop the way we want to get it ... We'll hire 10, 12, 15 workers over the next year.”

Keith Blankenship is the operations manager. He says how many jobs open up will depend on other local businesses.

“We do need the local industrial clientele here in the area to help support us with that,” Blankenship said. “Let's try to keep the work local ... The repair work that we do. So we can grow this business and so we can keep our community working.”

“There is people looking for work daily,” Koster said. “I got applications coming in daily here.”

The company has been in Huntington since the 1890s -- first as the Westinghouse Apparatus Service Center, then later as Eastern Electric -- and finally Grand Eagle.

Despite all the changes, Koster says one thing has stayed the same:

“We do the equipment the same way,” Koster said. “We do it the best way we can. A job well done.”

That's all as a company with a rich Huntington history plants its roots even deeper.
