Nicholas County Braces for Snow Again

Updated: Fri 7:48 PM, Dec 21, 2012

NICHOLAS COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- It may only be the first day of winter, but Jacob Nesselrotte has already had his fill of snow.

“We were plowing until 8 and 9 at night,” Nesselrotte said. “Getting up at 6 in the morning.”

In late October, he and his dad worked 14 hours a day, trying to help clear the 4 to 5 feet of snow that fell on the Nettie area. Now, they're back at it again -- trying to keep the parking lot clear at the local grocery store.

“It's just going to be hectic for a little while,” Nesselrotte said.

October's storm caused the roofs to collapse on two sister stores of the one Nesselrotte is plowing. Shopper Gloria Russell says after that, any snow leaves people a little on edge. She's lived in the area for more than 30 years and is used to snow -- just not that much.

“Over 38 inches of snow,” Russell said. “We were snowed in for quite some time. Had to take a bulldozer to get out.”

Jacob says, used to it or not, this storm is already messing up his holiday plans.

“I'm kinda dreading it,” Nesselrotte said. “I was supposed to go to Birch River and pick up my girlfriend, but since the snow hit I don't get to do that ... So I don't get to spend Christmas with her.”

He's also worried about folks who may wind up without heat

“There's other people like the old people that don't have power and stuff, so they can't stay warm,” Nesselrotte said.

They're challenges people there face as they get ready for a white Christmas.
