HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue, but today his ships sailed the Ohio River just for you.
Columbus himself didn't make it to Huntington, but his ships the Nina and Pinta did and they're docked at Holderby Landing through Monday.
The ships sailed into port on Tuesday and crew members have given tours to students, bringing history to life, according to Senior Captain Morgan Sanger.
Captain Sanger said that the ships are actual replicas of the original ships and provide people with a first-hand knowledge of how difficult life was on these voyages.
"A sense that things aren't so bad today compared to what their forefathers had to go through to cross oceans to find freedom," Sanger said.
If you want to climb aboard the ships they are open to visitors from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. through Monday. There is an admission fee for the adventure.
