JACKSON COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A man from Jackson County, Ohio who was arrested for spanking his son is now out of jail.

On Sept. 2, Charley Brown III was arrested in Jackson County, Ohio, for spanking his 6-year-old son with a belt.

According to the incident report from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Brown was charged with misdemeanor domestic violence after his son admitted his father pulled his pants down and spanked him with a belt. Authorities say the spanking left bruising and welts on the boy’s bottom.

Brown III’s bond was originally set at $100,000. It was reduced to $1,000 during a hearing Tuesday.

On Sept. 2, Charley Brown III was put behind bars in Jackson County, Ohio, for spanking his 6-year-old son.

According to a statement from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Brown was charged with domestic violence after his son admitted his father had spanked him with a belt, and authorities witnessed bruising and welts.

"I don't think you ought to spank a 6 year old with a belt. I think he needs counseling,” said Charley Brown Jr. “He needs to understand he's not old enough for that kind of a spanking. Hopefully he'll never get old enough for this spanking. You can get his attention while he's young, do it in loving kindness and show him what the problem was -- talk to him.”

The boy's stepmother Stephanie Brown is the one who dialed 911.

She tells WSAZ.com she made the call because her husband was stomping on the boy's legs, while holding him over a couch and excessively spanking him with the belt.

However, the police report does not mention that detail, saying Children's Services couldn't become involved unless there was severe injury or bruising.

"What I saw the next day was a couple little bruises that weren't very dark on his buttocks that were maybe a half inch. One on each cheek and one right below the cheek,” Roxann Brown said.

Now, the boy's grandparents just want their son out of jail.

"When I'm researching this, I don't understand his $100,000 bond. That's excessive,” Roxann Brown said.

The parents of Charley Brown III say he is scheduled to be in Jackson County Court at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
