UPDATE 12/21/12 @ 9 a.m.
CLEARFIELD, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A young boy has died in a house fire near Morehead Thursday morning.

The fire broke out about 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the 100-block of Fall Lane in Clearfield.

It was a neighbor who helped the family after she heard someone shouting.

"The little girls were screaming, Lottie was screaming, and I got up and ran to the back door and let them in," said Lois Black.

Lottie Pennington and her three daughters came into Black's house. They had escaped their burning home but suffered serious injuries.

"They were all burned, their hands," Black said.

Black says while they tended to the girl’s burns Lottie's husband, James Pennington, tried to get to their young son who was still in the house -- but the flames were too intense.

Lottie, James and the three girls were initially taken to a hospital in Morehead for their buns and then transferred to hospitals in Lexington and Cincinnati.

Our sister station WKYT reports that James is still listed in critical condition at UK Hospital.

Firefighters say they found the boy's body just before 11 a.m.

Black says Lottie Pennington told her the fire started near a kerosene heater.

Because someone died in the fire, Kentucky State Police arson investigators are working to find the exact cause.
