UPDATE 8/27/13 @ 7:40 p.m.
RACINE, Ohio (WSAZ) -- A community is mourning the loss of an 11-year-old boy who died in an ATV crash Monday night.

They will remember him by his spirit.

"He was just so happy and sweet and loving. He loved his friends. He loved everybody. He loved his family. He loved sports," said family friend Tricia McNickle.

Chase Roush, 11, died Monday night when he was hit by a car while riding his ATV -- something family friends say he did all the time.

"My cousin would talk about him going by all the time and just waving," McNickle said.

Police say Chase was riding down Ohio 124 in Racine when he crossed the center line and was hit by a car.

He was taken to Jackson General Hospital in Ripley, W.Va., but died from his injuries.

Jody Norris taught Chase in her third and fifth-grade classes.

"He rarely ever missed school, but if he was absent the kids were always like, 'Where's Chase, where's Chase,' " Norris said.

And she said that same question will be ringing through everyone's hearts when school begins next week.

"The beginning of the school year, as tight as this class is, I think it's going to be very hard," Norris said.

But as his family and friends try to move on, they remember the bright life he had.

"His family had him so involved in sports and things he had a lot to look forward to, you know," said Norris. "He was awesome, and he wasn't shy about showing his 'skill,' as he would say. "

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Anderson-McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy, Ohio.
