UPDATE: Man Shot to Death Near Clendenin; Name Released

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A fatal shooting over the weekend in Kanawha County will be handed over to the Kanawha County Prosecutor's Office to determine if charges will be filed.

Investigators say Robert Parsons II, 38, was shot Sunday afternoon in Clendenin.

They say he was damaging a car with an ax when he attacked another man.

That man pulled out a gun and shot Parsons.

Parsons was dead when crews got on scene.

The man who pulled the trigger has not been charged at this time. His name has not been released.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man accused of chasing another man with an axe was shot and killed by the man he was chasing, according to the Kanawha County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say Robert Parsons II, 38, was shot and pronounced dead on the scene.

It happened Saturday afternoon along Robinson Road near Clendenin.

The shooter was one of the people who made a call to 911.

"The person who fired the shots stayed on the scene with the 911 center till we got here and was totally cooperative after we got here," said Captain Greg Young with the Sheriff's Office.

The shooter was released.

According to reports from deputies and the shooter's uncle, the shooter was on his way to work on his grandma's house up the road.

Meanwhile, Parsons was in the process of destroying a vehicle with the axe.

Somehow a fight ensued that lead to the gunfire.

Neighbors say the area is quiet and has several kids, but an incident like this wasn't out of the blue.

"I wasn't surprised in some ways," said Helen Tanner. "There's a little bit of activity going up and down the hill at times."

No arrests have been made, and the incident remains under investigation.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Sheriff's deputies are investigating a fatal shooting in Clendenin.

It happened just before 12:30 p.m. along Robinson Street.

Deputies say the suspect was driving, on his way to work on a house, when he saw the victim beating a vehicle with an ax.

Deputies say the victim is a 38-year-old man. His name has not yet been released.

They also say the two men knew each other.
