CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The legacy of a West Virginia State Police trooper shot in the line of duty will be shared across the country.

Cpl. Marshall Bailey and Trooper Eric Workman were shot and killed last August during a traffic stop in Clay County.

Now an episode of the Outdoor Channel's “Fly Rod Chronicles” is dedicated in honor of fallen troopers and Workman's love for the outdoors.

"Eric was a muskie fisherman, which is the toughest kind of fish to catch," the show’s host Curtis Fleming said.

Trooper Brian Young was stationed with Workman in Clay County.

"I've got a little boy I like to take hunting and fishing,” Young said. "I didn't know any of the good places to go. That's when Eric told me 'You're lucky. I know all the good holes around here.'"

Friday night Workman’s family and fellow troopers were invited to the Cultural Center for a preview of the episode.

"It touches our heart every time we see something involving Eric,” West Virginia State Police Chief of Staff Gary Tincher said. “He was a wonderful young man, a wonderful trooper.”

"It's an honor he wasn't just remembered for the green that he wore but the life he lived and the stuff he loved to enjoy," Young said.

West Virginia is sponsoring the show this season hoping to promote tourism.

Troopers say there's no better representative for what's good about the state than their fallen brother.

Six episodes of "Fly Rod Chronicles" this season will be filmed in West Virginia.

The Workman episode will air on the Outdoor Channel next week.
