TRAFFIC ALERT: All Lanes Open Following Semi Crash on I-64 in Huntington

UPDATE 6/4/13 @ 11:44 a.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- All lanes of I-64 in Huntington are now open following a tractor trailer crash that brought traffic to a standstill Tuesday morning.

The crash happened about 6:15 a.m. near the 6 mile marker, which is between the 5th Street and West 17th Street exits.

A semi carrying scrap metal was heading west when it crashed and overturned in the median. The scrap metal ended up covering the eastbound lanes.

Shortly before 11:30 a.m. both eastbound lanes reopened. The westbound lanes reopened about 11:40 a.m.

The driver of truck was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- One eastbound and one westbound lane are now open on a portion of I-64 in Huntington following a tractor trailer crash Tuesday morning.

The crash happened about 6:15 a.m.near the 6 mile marker, which is between the 5th Street and West 17th Street exits.

A semi carrying scrap metal was heading west when it crashed and overturned in the median. The scrap metal ended up in the eastbound lanes.

It is expected to be a couple more hours before the interstate is fully open in the area of the crash.

Drivers heading east who want to avid the area should exit the Interstate at the Kenova or West 17th Street Exits. Drivers heading west should exit the Interstate at Hal Greer Blvd. or 5th Street.

ORIGINAL STORY 6/4/13 @ 7:05 a.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A tractor trailer crash has closed both eastbound lanes and one westbound lane of Interstate 64 between the 5th Street and West 17th Street exits in Huntington.

According to dispatchers, it happened about 6:15 a.m. Tuesday.

They say the semi was headed west when it crashed and overturned in the median. The truck was carrying scrap metal which was dumped in the eastbound lanes.

Again, both eastbound lanes are closed. Traffic is moving very slowly westbound with one lane closed.

Emergency responders are expected to close both westbound lanes when they begin removing the truck and cleaning up the metal.

Drivers heading east should exit the Interstate at the Kenova or West 17th Street Exits.

Drivers heading west should exit the Interstate at Hal Greer Blvd. or 5th Street.

We're told the driver was taken to the hospital as a precaution.
