UPDATE: Grand Jury to Hear Case Against Pike Co. Men Charged in Deadly Stabbing

WHITESBURG, Ky. (WSAZ) – A grand jury will now hear the case against two Pike county men charged in connection with a deadly stabbing on New Years Day.

One man was killed and two other men wounded in the stabbings that happened in downtown Whitesburg about 2 a.m. on January 1.

Mike Hogg, 24, of Richmond was killed. David Puckett, 23, of Jenkins, and Stacy Phillips, 23, of Thornton were wounded.

James Huffman, 34 of Pikeville, was charged with murder and assault.

Patrick Smith, 27, of Greasy Creek, was charged with complicity to murder, criminal mischief, carrying a concealed weapon and tampering with evidence.

Following a preliminary hearing last week, the case was sent to a grand jury.

Investigators said during that hearing that a dispute among the men likely led up to the stabbing.

The men are being held in the Letcher County Detention Center.

WHITESBURG, Ky. (WSAZ) – Two men from Pike County, Ky. charged in connection with a deadly stabbing early New Years Day have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

One man was killed and two other men wounded in the stabbings that happened in downtown Whitesburg about 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Kentucky State Police say Mike Hogg, 24, of Richmond was killed. David Puckett, 23, of Jenkins, and Stacy Phillips, 23, of Thornton were wounded.

James Huffman, 34 of Pikeville, has been charged with murder and assault.

Patrick Smith, 27, of Greasy Creek, is charged with complicity to murder, criminal mischief, carrying a concealed weapon and tampering with evidence.

Huffman and Smith were arraigned on the charges during a hearing Thursday in Letcher County District Court.

Preliminary hearings for both men are set for next week.

They are being held in the Letcher County Detention Center.

Investigators have not released a motive for the stabbings.

WHITESBURG, Ky. (WSAZ) -- A man from Pikeville has been charged with murder following an incident in Letcher County, where a man was killed and two others were injured in a fight early Wednesday morning.

James Huffman, 33, of Pikeville, has been charged with murder and assault.

Patrick Smith, 27, of Pike County, was also arrested and charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon and tampering with evidence.

Both men are being held in the Letcher County Detention Center

Kentucky State Police say Mike Hogg was stabbed to death in the incident in downtown Whitesburg about 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Two other people were injured and taken to local hospitals for treatment of stab wounds.

KSP has not released a motive for the stabbings.
