Pikeville Medical Center's Veterans Day Celebration Cancelled

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Pikeville Medical Center is cancelling their third annual Veterans Day celebration this year.

Due to major cuts in reimbursements, the hospital says all nonessential services are being limited.

"We always want to be supportive of our Veterans," PMC President Walter E. May said.

In the past, the celebration has been a day long affair. It starts with a parade then is followed by an air force flyover and 21 gun salute. There are guest speakers throughout the day and a time to remember Veterans who have died. A big highlight of the day is the free concert which has previously included country music artist Lee Greenwood.

Local residents can still pay tribute to Veterans at Pike County's annual event, which will be announced at a later time.
