ST. ALBANS, W.Va.(WSAZ) – A man who led police on a chase and crashed into a utility pole has been arrested.
St. Albans Police say Trellae Nellum-Toney, 18, ran a stop light and when officers tried to stop him, he fled.
Police say Nellum-Toney lost control of the car and hit a utility pole.
It happened about 2:50 a.m. Saturday on Pennsylvania Avenue near Drumheller Road.
They say he then tried to lie and say the woman who was the passenger in the car was the one behind the wheel.
Nobody was hurt in the crash.
Nellum-Toney is being charged with fleeing in a vehicle, failure to yield, driving without a license and reckless driving.
The pole that was hit is being fixed by Frontier Communications.
Nellum-Toney is awaiting arraignment in the South Central Regional Jail.
911 dispatchers say a car crashed into a utility pole during a police chase.
No word yet if the driver was hurt or why they were running from police.
