ASHLAND, Ky. (WSAZ) -- Police in Ashland continuing investigate a man's suspicious death during the weekend at the Bluegrass Inn.
Russell Chandler was 52 years old. He was found dead in his room at the Bluegrass, which had become his permanent home.
"He was good to everybody, fed everybody, even took in the homeless," said Chandler's close friend and neighbor John Wayne. "I just think he didn't deserved that. He didn't deserve it."
Wayne said that because many of his friends believe Chandler was killed.
"He was beat to death; there's no doubt in my mind. I saw it for myself," said another friend, who did not want to give her name.
The Boyd County coroner's report states that Chandler's cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, which the coroner says could mean several things.
"Right now, the manner of death is still undetermined," Coroner Mark Hammond said. "It could have been from a fall. It could have been from several different things, but what we do know is that he did die from a blow to the head."
Police also say they don't have enough evidence to determine whether or not foul play was involved. They say there were some disturbances reported from Chandler's room.
Police are still waiting on several tests, including a toxicology report from the medical examiner's office.
