RALEIGH COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A rash of home invasions have been hitting Raleigh County, according to police. Community members say they're on edge and losing sleep over the troubling trend.

"They seem to know where to go, when people are not at home and are vulnerable," neighbor Susan Jordan said.

Jordan said her home was recently targeted by a masked robber who arrived and demanded money.

"I couldn't believe that someone would walk in to rob me," she said.

Police say the home invasions started in Shady Springs -- where Jordan lives -- but are now spreading across the county.

Von Moye grew up in Shady Springs and said his mother was targeted a few weeks ago. He said a man forced his way through her bedroom window and stole jewelry that was in her room.

"People here are afraid to go to sleep at night ... it's getting out of hand," Moye said.

Moye created a Facebook group to warn people about the crimes and organize a neighborhood watch, which Susan said is a necessity.

"We need to keep our eyes open for suspicious things going on," she said.

Moye said there will be a community meeting at Ghent Volunteer Fire Department Tuesday to discuss the situation. It is scheduled at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9.
