Man Charged in Shooting in Jackson County, W.Va.

JACKSON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man has been charged in a shooting in Jackson County, W.Va.

The shooting happened about 4 a.m. Friday in front of a motel along Route 21 in Fairplain.

Sheriff's Deputies tell WSAZ.com Thaabit Bashir, 23, was charged with malicious wounding and two charges of attempted murder.

Investigators say three men were arguing near a truck parked outside of a motel along Route 21 when Bashir pulled out a handgun and fired several rounds. The men wrestled for the gun, and Bashir was shot in the leg.

During the struggle for the gun, Bashir shot Brandon Barnett, of Greenup County, Ky., three times. One of the bullets hit him in the head. There's no word on his condition.

Bashir walked to a nearby truck stop for help. Deputies say before he was taken to the hospital, he was able to give investigators a description of the truck he was near when the shooting happened.

Charleston Police later spotted that truck along Interstate 64 and pulled it over. Police say several rounds had been shot at the truck.

Deputies say they found Bashir had a small amount of drugs.

JACKSON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- An incident where two men were shot in Jackson County, W.Va. appears to be drug related.

Sheriff's Deputies say they believe the shooting took place about 4 a.m. Friday in front of a motel along Route 21 in Fairlplain. Deputies say three men were inside of a truck at the time of the shooting.

A man from Columbus, Ohio was shot in the head, but he was able to walk to a nearby truck stop for help. Witnesses say he was covered in blood when he walked into the store.

Deputies say before he was taken to the hospital he was able to give investigators a description of the truck he was in at the time of the shooting.

Charleston Police later spotted that truck along Interstate 64 and pulled it over. Police say several rounds had been shot at the truck.

Police say two men were inside the truck during the traffic stop. One of the men had been shot in the head and arm.

The driver told police he was driving him to CAMC General to get treated.

The men inside the truck are from Logan County, W.Va. and Greenup County, Ky.

Charleston Police are still processing the truck and gathering evidence.

Jackson County deputies say an arrest is pending in the case.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 64 near the Interstate 77 split were closed for a short time while the pick-up truck was pulled over.

Deputies spent several hours along Route 21 in Fairplain gathering evidence in the shooting.

No names have been released in the case.

JACKSON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two men are in the hospital recovering after they were both shot early Friday morning in Jackson County, W.Va.

Sheriff's Deputies say they believe the shooting took place about 4 a.m. in front of a motel along Route 21 in Fairlplain.

One of the victims walked to a nearby truck stop for help. The man was shot in the head. Witnesses say he was covered in blood and taken to the hospital.

A short time later, Charleston Police pulled over a pickup truck along Interstate 64 they believed was connected to the shooting in Jackson County. Police say several rounds had been shot at the truck.

Police say there was a man in the truck who had been shot in the head and arm. The driver told police he was driving him CAMC General to get treated.

Charleston Police are still processing the truck.

Police have questioned both men and at this time, no charges have been filed in the case.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 64 near the Interstate 77 split were closed for a short time while the pick-up truck was pulled over.

Deputies have been along Route 21 in Fairplain for several hours gathering evidence in the shooting.

JACKSON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Jackson County Sheriff's Deputies are investigating a shooting that spanned two counties and sent two people to the hospital early Friday morning.

Sheriff's Deputies say they believe the shooting took place about 4 a.m. in front of a motel along Route 21 in Fairlplain.

One of the victims walked to a nearby truck stop and asked for help. Witnesses say the man was covered in blood. He was taken to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Charleston Police pulled over a pickup truck along Interstate 64 investigators believe was connected to the shooting in Jackson County.

One person in the truck was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound. Another was taken in for questioning.

Both men appeared to have non-life threatening injuries.

No arrests have been made.

Deputies have been along Route 21 in Fairplain for several hours gathering evidence in the shooting.

JACKSON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Two people were shot early Friday morning and are being treated right now according to the sheriff of Jackson County, W.Va. Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Several law enforcement agencies are investigating the shootings at multiple locations, both in Jackson County and in Kanawha County. Investigators aren't saying if they know who is responsible for the shootings, though they say a third person is being questioned in connection to them.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Interstate 64 West near the split with Interstate 77 is back open after being closed earlier Friday morning when a vehicle with a person involved in a Jackson County, W.Va. shooting was pulled over.

So far no names or conditions have been released.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Metro 911 dispatchers in Kanawha County tell WSAZ.com I-64 West is shutdown near the I-77 split in Charleston after a person involved in a Jackson Co. shooting was pulled over.

Dispatchers say it is unclear at this time if the person pulled over in Kanawha County was a suspect or the victim in the Jackson County shooting. That person has been taken to the hospital.

Traffic on I-64 West is being diverted off at the Washington St. Exit.

It happened early Friday morning at Love's Travel Stop just off the Ripley-Fairplain exit of Interstate 77.
