UPDATE 5/8/13 @ 10:20 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A shooting investigation continues after multiple shots were fired Wednesday afternoon in the 1800 block of Doulton Avenue, leaving a 19-year-old man injured, Huntington Police say.
The victim is identified as Toquan Hayes, 19, of Huntington. He suffered a single gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital by a family member.
Hayes was a standout athlete at Huntington High School who graduated last spring. He was recruited to play football at the University of Charleston last fall.
The shooting was reported about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Kay Hatcher is friends with Hayes' family. She says he's fortunate he was only shot in the leg.
"He could have been killed,” she said. “This is ridiculous to keep have this happening in the neighborhood. They need to take it somewhere else."
Investigators continue to conduct interviews and have not determined who may be involved at this time.
Witnesses have reported seeing a red Pontiac with Ohio license plates fleeing the scene.
If anyone has information about the incident, they are asked to call the Criminal Investigations Bureau at (304) 696-4420 or the Huntington Police tip line at (304) 696-4444.
The shooting happened about 3 p.m. in the 1900-block of Daulton Avenue.
