NEW INFO: Man Charged with Trying to Suffocate Infant Daughter Sentenced

UPDATE 4/26/12 @ 1:25 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A man who was arrested for the attempted murder of his baby - over making the baby's bottle - will be spending some time in prison.

Larry Thomas was sentenced Thursday to 1 to 3 years in prison during a hearing in Cabell County Circuit Court.

Earlier this month, Thomas pleaded guilty to child neglect resulting injury as part of a plea deal. He was originally charged with attempted murder, domestic battery and concealing a dangerous weapon.

He was granted time served.

The incident happened in February when the baby's mother said she found Thomas trying to smother the 11-month-old girl with a pillow.

UPDATE 2/7/12 @ 5:45p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A fight about a baby's bottle ended with a man in jail -- charged with the attempted murder of his infant daughter.

Larry Thomas is accused of trying to suffocate his 11-month-old daughter with a pillow.

It happened about 11:30 p.m. Monday at the couple's home in the 2100 block of 10th Avenue. That's when little Keyonah started crying.

According to police, Thomas got into an argument with the Keyonah's mother, Christina Mayhone, over who was going to go make the baby's bottle.

Eventually, Mayhone went downstairs to do it. She noticed the baby became quiet. When she walked back into the room, she encountered a horrific scene.

"Mr. Thomas was, in fact, had a pillow over the child and was pressing down with his forearm," Huntington Police Detective Lt. John Williams said. "In her words, the baby was flailing around trying to get the pillow from her face. After that point, she immediately intervened.

"Of course, it's appalling. You take a defenseless child of that nature and you do something like this. You just have to wonder what's going through this individual's head when he's doing this. It just doesn't make any sense."

Thomas was arraigned Tuesday morning in Cabell County. He's charged with attempted murder, domestic battery and concealing a dangerous weapon. Police found a knife on Thomas when they took him into custody. Thomas is also a fugitive from justice on a drug charge in Boyd County, Ky.

Williams says Child Protective Services (CPS) has been contacted regarding the safety and welfare of the child.

Thomas is in the Western Regional Jail on a $500,000 cash bond.
