UPDATE: Strong Gust of Wind Leads to Power Outage in Huntington

UPDATE 8/28/13 @ 4:25 p.m.
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- AEP officials say a gust of wind is what led to a power outage in Huntington Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesperson tells WSAZ.com that around 3 p.m., a strong gust of wind blew a wire into another, causing a spark and an outage.

It happened at a substation in west Huntington.

Power is expected to be restored by 5 p.m.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ ) -- Some 2600 AEP customers in the Huntington area are without electric Wednesday afternoon.

An AEP spokesperson says the problem is at a substation in west Huntington.

The outage happened just after 3 p.m.

There is no word on what caused the outage. Cabell 911 reports power should be back on in about 3 hours.
