PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A recent chemical spill and an explosion at Airgas this week have once again highlighted the need for an emergency warning system in Putnam County.
The county is currently in the process of installing five emergency sirens across the county. They will be located in Poca, Eleanor, Winfield, Teays Valley and Hurricane.
The sirens have the capability of giving voice recorded messages that will give instructions to the community during an emergency situation.
Putnam County Commissioners say the sirens should be in place by the end of this month.
Kanawha County has a similar siren system already in place.
