Caught on Camera: Man in Skull Mask Robs Store

DINGESS, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Halloween started early for a robber in Mingo County who put on a mask and headed into a gas station.

Monday night security cameras at the Dingess Service Center captured what resembles a scene from a horror film.

A man in a skull mask and hoody demanded cash.

"It looked like he had something heavy in his pockets,” store owner Crystal Baisden said. “She (the clerk) thought it may have been a gun."

The suspect got away with 1,200 dollars.

Baisden says someone also got a head start on trick or treat a couple weeks ago, pulling a dangerous prank on a vehicle in the parking lot.

"Someone stopped off the road, threw some papers in the seat of a truck, and set it on fire," she said.

A few miles away at Jaime's Restaurant and Prince's Grocery, the pre-Halloween frights go beyond the decorations.

"Every time you turn around someone's breaking in, robbing, doing something," employee Melissa Wilson said.

Recently someone busted through their glass door, all for a just a pack of cigarettes.

The woman working at the gas station said she recognized the suspect's voice and thought she might know who he was.

The Mingo County Sheriff's Department and State Police are following up on her lead.

Baisden says that clerk very well may not return to work there after this experience.
