School Safety Talks in Logan County

LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Following the massacre in Newtown, Connecticut, school officials and principals in Logan County got together Monday night with State Police to discuss how they can improve school safety.

Logan County Superintendent Wilma Zigmond says they just installed new safety measures about a year ago.

What they want to do now is get their newer employees familiar with their emergency plans.

"We have excellent security plans, but we have new people in our building,” Zigmond said. “I'm not sure they're all in tune where they need to be.”

State Police will be training staff at schools through the county after the first of the year.

They also talked about increasing the times a year they practice for an emergency like the one in Newtown.

They also discussed making master keys for all the schools to leave with law enforcement so in the case of an emergency they'd be able to make a quicker entrance into the buildings rather than have to force their way in.
