GALLIPOLIS, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Up until just a couple of months ago, there had never been a meth lab bust within the city limits of Gallipolis. Since late November, several meth labs have been found.

Gallipolis Police tell that three separate labs were found over the weekend in the city.

Saturday, two plastic grocery bags containing "one-pot" labs were found along Mill Creek Road near the city limits. On Sunday, a backpack containing meth lab components was found in a field along Upper River Road. Later the same day, another backpack with 12 "one-pot" labs was found in a dumpster behind a business on Eastern Avenue.

Another lab was found at the Regency Inn on Upper River Road within the last month.

Several of the "one-pot" labs were made in pop bottles.

Crews from the Middleport Police Department and the Gallia County Sheriff's Office came in over the weekend and helped disassemble and neutralize the labs.

No arrests have been made.

The Gallipolis Police Department is urging the public to become familiar and be able to recognize possible dump sites.

Some of the items to look for at a dump site are:

  • Bottles or jars with rubber tubing
  • Propane tanks with fittings that have turned blue or green
  • Strong smell of urine
  • An unusal amount of cold tablet containers
  • Jars or bottles containing clear liquid with a white or red colored solid on the bottom
  • Jars or bottles containing iodine or dark shiny metallic purple crystals
  • Jars or bottles containing red phosphorus or a fine dark red or purple powder
  • Coffee filters containing a white pasty substance, a dark red sludge or small amounts of shiny white crystals
  • Bottles containing sulfuric, muriatic or hydrochloric acid
  • Glass cookware or frying pans containing a powdery residue
  • A large number of cans of camp fuel, paint thinner, acetone, starter fluid, lye and drain cleaners
  • Large amounts of lithium batteries, especially ones that have been stripped
  • Soft silver or gray metallic ribbon stored in oil or kerosene

If you have any information in the labs, call the Gallipolis Police Department.
