HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Huntington Police are on the scene of a shooting.
It was reported about 3 p.m. Monday in the 2700-block of Highlawn Avenue.
Captain Mike Albers with Huntington Police tells WSAZ.com a man was shot in the leg.
Police say the victim was on the porch when they got on scene. He was taken to St. Mary's Medical Center. No word on his name or condition.
Albers tells WSAZ.com a woman was at the house at the time of the shooting.
Albers says the initial report was that two men went to the home with handguns, shot the victim and took off in a vehicle.
Children with backpacks had to walk around the crime scene to get home from school.
"It used to be a great neighborhood, in the past ten years it's just gone downhill,” neighbor Erin Peters said.
Peters says she's seen lots of suspected drug activity on her street.
"I don't even let my kids out to play,” she said. “We have to go somewhere else."
From dealing with an obvious felony to dealing with a misdemeanor, police also say they'll be contacting code enforcement about a sofa on the porch of that same house.
The city recently passed a ban on indoor furniture on porches.
