UPDATE: Man Accused of Firing Shots in Huntington Says He's 'Mentally Ill"

HUNTINGTON, W.VA. (WSAZ) -- A man police say fired several shots outside a rental car service is calling himself "mentally-ill."

Clay Slash, 56,of Huntington told WSAZ.com he suffers from a bipolar disorder and hadn't slept in a week.

Police say Slash became angry with an employee at Enterprise Rent-a-Car on Third Avenue Thursday morning. They say an argument caused him to open fire on the busy road.

"I shot a gun up in the air...warning shots," Slash said. "Don't come no closer."

Employees at nearby Turnpike Ford watched the fight break out and tried to intervene when they say Slash became violent.

Jason Hanshaw says he kept Slash occupied until officers responded.

"I was right in his face, and he was right in mine," Hanshaw said. "I was looking at him straight in the eye, and he definitely seemed like he was out in left field somewhere."

Slash says he takes several different kinds of medication for his mental disorder and has trouble functioning in society.

"I could be talking to you right now and a minute later I could bust your skull," he said.

Slash said he started fighting because he was angry at the service he received at the business.

He was charged with three counts of felony wanton endangerment.

HUNTINGTON, W.VA. (WSAZ) -- A man has been arrested after police say he fired several shots into air after getting into an argument with workers at a car rental business.

The incident happened at Enterprise Rent-A-Car in the 2400 block of 3rd Avenue Thursday morning just after 8 a.m.

Huntington Police are charging Clay Timothy Slash, 56, of Huntington, with 3 counts of wanton endangerment, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Slash was also charged with intimidation or retaliation against a police officer in connection with his arrest.

Police say that after Slash got into an altercation with an employee inside the building, he then walked outside and fired a handgun into the air.

Slash then began walking west in the middle of 3rd Avenue where he started yelling at employees of a nearby car dealership.

Police arrived and arrested Slash and confiscated the .22 caliber handgun in his possession.

No one was hurt during the incident.

Police say Slash arrived at the business on a motorcycle.

The incident happened at Enterprise Rent-A-Car in the 2400 block of 3rd Avenue Thursday morning.

Huntington Police tell WSAZ.com the incident began after the man into an argument about renting a car.

Police says the man then went outside and fired two shots into the air.

No one was hurt.

The man was taken into custody at the scene.

His name and charges have not yet been released.

Police say he arrived at the business on a motorcycle.
