UPDATE: Point Pleasant Man Charged with Shooting at Officers

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Mason County man could spend the next 90 years in jail for allegedly shooting a shotgun at nine Point Pleasant Police Officers.

Richard Allen Thomas, 58, of Point Pleasant, W.Va., was arraigned Friday afternoon in Mason County Magistrate Court on 90 counts of wanton endangerment.

According to the criminal complaint, Thomas fired a shotgun 10 times at nine Point Pleasant Police Officers training at the Jericho Gun Club in Point Pleasant.

Point Pleasant Police Chief Ernie Ernie Waterson said nine officers were doing night shooting practice at the range.

The Mason County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene after a call came out that the Point Pleasant Police Department was "pinned down by gunfire."

When Deputies got to Thomas' house, according to the complaint, they found a shotgun on top of a freezer, and then they took Thomas into custody.

According to the complaint, Thomas told the Mason County Sheriff's Department that he thought some kids were shooting at the range and he wanted them to know he had a gun. Thomas also said that he fired his shotgun at the range 10 to 12 times and then went back upstairs to bed.

None of the officers were injured during the incident, but a personal car that belonged to an officer was damaged.

Thomas is being held in the Western Regional Jail. Bond was set at $500,000.

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A Mason County man is being charged with 90 counts of wanton endangerment after allegedly shooting at nine Point Pleasant Police Officers.

Richard Allen Thomas, 58, was booked into the Western Regional Jail early Friday morning.

The incident happened at a shooting range along Jericho Road at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

Point Pleasant Police Chief Ernie Ernie Waterson said nine officers were doing night shooting practice at the range when they were shot at several times.

Waterson says Thomas lived near the range.

No one was hurt, but a couple cruisers were hit.

The Mason County Sheriff's Department is investigating.

Thomas will be video arraigned on the charges in Mason County Magistrate Court sometime Friday morning.

MASON COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Point Pleasant Police tell WSAZ.com that one person is in custody after opening fire on officers.

The incident happened at a shooting range along Jericho Road at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

Chief Ernie Ernie Waterson says nine officers were doing night shooting practice at the range when they were shot at several times.

Waterson says a man who lived near the range was arrested for the shooting..

No one was hurt, but a couple cruisers were hit.

The Mason County Sheriff's Department is investigating.
