Spencer Road in Clendenin Reopens after Morning Crash

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- After hours of repairs, Spencer Road in Clendenin is back open to traffic after a crash.

The crash happened about 8:20 a.m. Friday along Spencer Road near Second Avenue.

Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies tell WSAZ.com Susan Smith was heading into Clendenin when she lost control, went into a ditch and hit a power pole.

The pole and lines fell on the car. Emergency crews couldn't get Smith out of the vehicle until power crews got on scene to say it was safe for her to get out.

Smith was taken to the hospital.

Spencer Road was closed for several hours until the power pole was repaired.

The crash happened about 8:20 a.m. Friday along Spencer Road near Second Avenue.

Kanawha County Sheriff's Deputies tell WSAZ.com Susan Smith was heading into Clendenin when she lost control, went into a ditch and hit a power pole.

The pole and lines fell on the car. Emergency crews couldn't get Smith out of the vehicle until power crews got on scene to say it was safe for her to get out.

Smith was taken to the hospital.

Spencer Road is closed between the Thorofare Road and Clendenin. A crew with AEP says they don't expect the road to reopen until 2 p.m. Friday.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Several accidents have been reported in and around Charleston Friday due to slick roads.

Right now, Spencer Road in Clendenin is shut down due to an accident. It was reported 8:20 a.m. in the area of 2nd Avenue.

Kanawha County 911 Dispatchers tell WSAZ.com it's a single vehicle accident that took out a power pole. Dispatchers say the pole and lines are on the vehicle.

Emergency crews can't get the driver out of the vehicle until power crews get on scene, according to dispatchers.

Again, Spencer Road in the area of 2nd Avenue is closed in both directions. Dispatchers say it will be closed for three to four hours.

Other accidents have been reported at Youngs Bottom on Elk River Road, Sam's Hot Dogs on Greenbrier Street and 3900 MacCorkle Avenue SE in Kanawha City.

Dispatchers urge drivers to use extra caution and slow down as they head to work and school.
