UPDATE 6/13/14
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (AP/WSAZ) - A judge has ruled that a now 15-year-old from Franklin Furnace, Ohio, charged with killing his father won't be tried as an adult.

A judge made the ruling during a court hearing on Thursday.

Prosecutors say in March 48-year-old Michael Riley was shot to death by his then 14-year-old son at their home in the 600 block of Disterdick Road.

Investigators say following the shooting, the boy rode his bike 3 to 4 miles to James Sampson’s house where Sampson called 911. Sampson is at teacher at Green High School, the school the teen attends.

A court-appointed psychologist said in a written report that he believes the teen can be treated and rehabilitated in the juvenile justice system.

The psychologist wrote that the teen was in "a markedly dysfunctional family" and was exposed to past verbal or physical abuse before getting a gun and shooting his father while the man was asleep.

The report also says teen has no prior history of violent or delinquent behavior.

The teen is expected back in court at the end of July.

UPDATE 3/19/14 @ 6 p.m.
SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) -- Authorities have released the 911 call of a shooting where they say a teen killed his father.

The fatal shooting happened Sunday afternoon at a home in the 600 block of Disterdick Road in Franklin Furnace.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty Donini says 48-year-old Michael Riley was shot to death by his 14-year-old son.

Investigators say following the shooting, the boy rode his bike 3 to 4 miles to James Sampson’s house where Sampson called 911. Sampson is at teacher at Green High School, the school the teen attends.

“I have a 911 emergency and I’m not sure how to handle it…One of my students has just showed up to my house, said he needed help and I asked him what was wrong and he was crying and he's here now. He told me he shot his dad… He’s standing right here next to me.”

Investigators told us there was not a phone at the boy's house to call 911.

They also said the boy claimed he was the on-going victim of verbal abuse, and just couldn't take it any more.

The boy's mother told investigators she had planned to file for custody of the teen this week because he was being verbally abused at his dad's house.

After consulting with the Scioto County Prosecutor, the teen was arrested and charged with one count of murder. A motion has been filed to try the 14-year-old as an adult.

He is currently being held in a juvenile detention center.
