HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A tentative agreement has been reached between union workers and Special Metals.

Union members told WSAZ.com that a contract proposal submitted by the company last week was ratified Monday. About 700 workers are expected to stay on the job.

Employees had been working under an extension of a previous contract that expired at midnight Friday, Aug. 10.

Sources tell WSAZ.com that members of the United SteelWorkers have come to a tentative agreement on a contract with Special Metals. That agreement could keep the 700 workers at the plant on the job.

So far, details have not been released about the agreement. However, union members have been meeting all day at the union headquarters. Sources say the workers are reviewing the contract before having a final vote in the near future.

Special Metals spokesperson, Dwight Weber tells WSAZ.com that both sides agreed to extend the current contract. Weber says the extension is opened ended.

He says the company plans to continue to “bargain in good faith.” Weber had no other comment on the talks.

WSAZ.com has several calls in to the Steelworkers union that represent the workers, but at this time we have not heard back from the union.
