CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- The sternwheeler known as the "Spirit of West Virginia" has been sold and will soon be heading to Louisiana.
According to the a press release, the owners, Capt. Dick and Nancy Daugherty say they sold the sternwheeler due to high costs of insurance, maintenance, fuel and personal time.
They owners say this is the last remaining commercial passenger vessel on the Kanawha River.
The Daugherty's say, "It is a bitter sweet moment for us personally, we have really enjoyed sharing our river heritage for the last four years on an authentic sternwheeler from Montgomery to Point Pleasant and every community in between.
They say there are two final public rides scheduled for September and October.
They will offer rides at the Dunbar Fall Festival at Dunbar Landing on September 20 and 21.
They will also offer rides at the Rod Run and Doo Wop Car Show in Charleston October 3-5.
