JOHNSON CO., Ky. (WSAZ) -- Johnson and Floyd County Officials have declared a state of emergency after Friday night's severe storms caused roads and homes to flood.

David Akers with the State Emergency Management Office says they have state and county crews throughout the area assessing the damage. He says many homes were flooded when flash floods hit Friday night. Several roads were either flooded or washed away as well.

Akers says Johnson County officials declared the state of emergency around 11;30p.m. Friday night, and Floyd County officials made the declaration sometime this morning.

Crews will continue to assess the damage to public and private properties, then report back to the State Emergency Management headquarters to determine further action.

We have a reporter on the way to get all of the details of what areas were hit and how badly they were damaged.
