WAYNE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Neighbors in one community are getting fed up after a string of thefts that's been going on for a week.
Neighbors say someone's been breaking into homes at night on and around Jennies Creek Road near Crum. The thieves are also taking equipment out of garages and sheds.
Sally Blevins says thieves have even stolen vegetables from her garden.
"They steal anything around here they can get their hands on,” said Blevins. “I'm tired of it."
Blevins says the problem extends beyond this string of thefts. She says for months it's not been rare to see people selling drugs in broad daylight, and cars travel frequently all hours of the night in and out of Old Fork Road off Jennies Creek.
So far dozens of no trespassing signs all over the area have failed to make an impact. Residents are afraid it's just a matter of time until the culprits pick on the wrong house.
"I hate to say this, but if somebody tries to come in, I will hurt them,” Blevins said. “I've worked my life away for what I've got here. I'm not going to stand by and let people rob me. I will not do it."
Neighbor Delores Spaulding didn’t hesitate when asked what she’d like to say to those responsible.
"I would like to say get off your butt, go to work, get off the drugs, do something with your life. That's what I'd like to say," said Spaulding.
Deputy Harry Sowards says the Wayne County Sheriff's Department arrested two men in that area Tuesday night on separate warrants not connected to the break-ins.
We’re told they got out on bond Wednesday.
Sowards says they're investigating the thefts and working on collecting stolen property.
