SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- A man has been cuffed and charged after detectives say he stole cash from behind a counter at a Kroger grocery store.
Metro 911 dispatchers tell WSAZ.com it happened inside the Kroger at Riverwalk Mall just after 6 p.m. Saturday.
South Charleston Police say James Calvin Smith III, 38, of Charleston, noticed a girl working the service counter wasn't paying attention when he snuck into the office and stole more than $1,000 out of a cash drawer.
Detectives say Smith jumped the counter and took off but never threatened anyone and no customers or workers were hurt.
Several witnesses helped police get an accurate description. Smith was later caught in Charleston by police.
